Prediabetes is a health condition where a person’s blood sugar is higher than the normal level, but not high enough to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. Having prediabetes may put you at a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and strokes later in life. However, prediabetes can be prevented!
Type two diabetes is a type of diabetes where cells in your body don’t respond normally to insulin. Insulin is produced by an organ called the pancreas. Insulin helps blood sugar go into your cells to use for energy. Since your cells can’t responding normally to the insulin, the pancreas makes more insulin to make up for it. Soon, the pancreas can’t keep up the extra work of producing extra and your blood sugar will rise. High blood sugar can be damaging to the body. It may lead to other serious health concerns like heart disease, vision loss, kidney disease, and nerve damage. Type 2 Diabetes usually occurs in adults, but it is becoming more common in children.
A stroke occurs when there is a block of blood flow, and the brain can’t get blood or oxygen. The brain tissue can begin to die within minutes, which can lead to long term damage to your brain, body, and abilities.
Heart disease is a broad term that includes many types of heart conditions like high blood pressure, heart attacks, or coronary artery disease. Did you know it’s the leading cause of death within the United States? Heart disease is often hard to diagnose early because the symptoms could be caused by many things.
