Peanuts Lovers Live Longer, Recent Study Shows
According to this recent study, individuals who eat peanuts every day may live longer over a five- or six-year period than those who go without. The results for the U.S.study group showed that people who consumed about 17-18 grams of peanuts per day (roughly 2/3 ounce) were 21 percent more likely to live longer.
Peanuts and tree nuts (pine nuts, pecans and walnuts) may help people live longer because they are rich in important nutrients such as monounsaturated fats, fiber, antioxidants and vitamins. Some of these nutrients help supports the heart's endothelial function, which affects the cells lining blood vessels.
The study also found that people who ate more peanut butter also increased their chances of living longer compared to those that did not. So consider eating more natural peanut butter if you would rather have it as a spread rather than eat peanuts by the handful. Just be sure to make room in your diet somehow!
